It seems that belly button tattoos are becoming very popular these days. Women generally outnumber men in terms of favoring this particular tattoo design.

With fashion showing a womans bare mid drift more and more, it's no wonder why this particular tattoo art is being heavily requested at tattoo shops all around the world.
As with any tattoo, one has to consider some things before getting inked.

When you consider a belly button tattoo, there are a few different things you also have to take into account.

The Good:
  • The belly button area has less nerve endings than other parts of the body, so is generally a less painful area in which to get a tattoo.
  • If you have a nice stomach or well defined abs, it definitely will draw attention there.
  • You can look at this 2 ways. Having a belly button tattoo can either be displayed easier or it can be more easily concealed, depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

The Not So Good:
  • The area in and around the belly button is subject to stretching. Think about weight fluctuations or pregnancy in women. Also consider possible surgery in the area, either planned (plastic surgery) or unplanned (emergency medical procedures.) Any of the scenarios above will distort the tattoo.
  • This is an area of the body, that for some people, can be susceptible to keloids. A keloid is skin tissue that becomes raised due to scars and never returns to a flat, smooth appearance. They can occur anywhere on the body, but it is something to think about.
  • Some people actually have more pain in the abdominal area depending on the individual and overall fat content. Unfortunately there is no way to know for sure unless you bite the bullet and get the tattoo.
